Digging deeper

The plumbers arrived to do their thing with the pipes and saw that while one layer of concrete had been removed to the earth there was another layer over most of the floor. So they left and James returned with a younger minion, whose name has fallen out of my head, to spend more than three hours excavating further. The ground level in there is now about 20 cm or more (about three bricks in height) lower than when standing on the original floor.

I asked if the concrete in this layer of floor was harder than normal to remove. They said it seemed like normal so maybe it wasn’t laid by Daniel Kennedy with his secret concrete formula. Or maybe modern jack hammers work better. I did save a few small chunks of it anyway.

Hopefully the plumbers will be happy when they return.
